This is how it goes; you first meet that person and you start to get to know each other. Day by day you’ll start to realize how you guys talk a lot and then next thing you know, you’ll realize that you start to like each other. You start to think things through and you’ll realize that it’s impossible to work things out since you guys live in two different places. You’ll get your hopes up whenever you get a text or a call from that person but then realize that one of you has to go soon. Then one day, you’ll admit that you both have feelings for each other but not sure how things will work out because of the distance. You’ll tell each other that you’ll “find a way” to work things out and it’s enough to keep your hopes up for each other. You start talking more often and hope that you’ll see each other soon; this is the fun part. You’ll look forward to seeing each other every day even though it’s hard. It gives you something to look forward to everyday because every day is another day closer to being with each other. You’ll have a time where one is falling slowly but that’s why you have each other; to pick each other up and remind each other that you’ll see each other soon.
That day is coming soon and you’ll start to countdown. That last week is probably the longest week you’ll ever have because you’re all hyped up to see each other. Day by day you’re reminding each other that it’s only a couple of days or hours till you’re in each others arms. You won’t be able to sleep the night before you see each other and once that day time, you’ll try to find ways to kill the time so you can hop on that car, bus, train, or even airplane just to see him/her already. You just can’t wait to see your significant other. During your ride there you’ll start to think how much fun you’ll have with each other. You’ll start to plan the things you want to do, where you want to go, etc. You have this huge smile on your face because you know that you’ll be in each others arms soon.
Once you get off and you see your significant other, you just feel like yelling on the top of your lungs because you can finally see him/her again after waiting days, weeks, months, or even years. That moment is indescribable. Your world will stop right when you see the smile on each others faces; it’s not those fake smiles, it’s that real smile that means so much to each other. You’ll see the how handsome or how beautiful he/she is. That very first hug is probably one of the longest hug you’ll ever get in your life. Knowing that you’re in each others arms is one of the best feelings you’ll ever experience.
You wouldn’t know where to go once you see each other. You can’t think of anything to do. You’ll just say “I don’t know” or “it’s up to you” because you’ll know that all you want is to be with that person. You’ll probably end up somewhere peaceful and quiet so you can just be with each other and just talk; exchanging smiles and laughter with each other. That moment is priceless. You’ll know that the wait was worth waiting for once you’re each others arms. You’ll cherish every single minute you have with each other because you’ll know that you’ll be separated again. You’ll stay up until one of you falls asleep and once one falls asleep, the other just stares at you until he/she falls asleep. You’ll start to whisper how much you missed him/her and how much fun you’re having. You’ll start to tell him/her your secrets while he/she is asleep. Seeing your significant other sleep is probably the cutest thing you’ll ever see.
Here comes the worst part; saying goodbye. This is one of many difficulties you’ll face when you’re in this kind of mess. From that last few hours you have together, you’ll start talking about when you’ll see each other again; it’s painful. You’ll start to look into each other’s eyes and you’ll see that one of you is about to break down and cry and next thing you know, both of you are bawling. You’ll talk about how everything will be okay and how you’ll both hang on. You’ll hug each other and cry on each other’s shoulders and make sure that everything will be okay. After that, you start to cheer each other up by talking about how much fun you had, by teasing each other, or tickling each other. Then it’s time to say goodbye. Once you’ll wait for that car, bus, train, or airplane to come, you’ll stay till the last minute to say goodbye. You’ll give each other your last hugs and kisses. You’ll say that everything will be fine and you’ll just hang on like you did last time and see that last smile on each others faces. Your time together is priceless.
You’ll look into each others eyes until you can’t see them anymore but still stare at that place where they were for a while. By this time you’re either smiling but for the most part, you heart just sinks because you’re separated again. The ride back home is a killer. You’ll start to think about the time you spent together and then end up crying until you run out of tears. But in the end, you’ll know that it was worth the wait.
The few days after you see each other will be difficult. You’re back to the old routine and back to talking/texting. You’ll go on and on about what you guys did and how much fun you guys had. A couple of days later one may fall and that’s the worst part of being in a long distance relationship; knowing that one is falling and you aren’t by their side to comfort them. All you can do is comfort each other through the phone. You may feel helpless because you can’t be there physically to hold him/her tight in your arms to make sure that everything will be okay. You’ll just remind each other how much you miss each other and how you’ll get through it as long as you’re in it together. In the end, you’ll start to look forward to the next time you’ll see each other again.
This is a whole cycle. Long distance relationships are hard but you can manage to hold on with trust and communication. There are times when you’ll feel like things are a bit repetitive or things are just changing but always remember that you’re in this together. There are times when you’ll feel like it’s pointless and you’re ready to give up but ask yourself, why did you hang on in the first place? You wouldn’t have hung on for so long if he/she wasn’t worth it. Update each other as much as you can so one won’t feel left behind. Always remember that it’s worth the wait.
